Biography

Joseph Frank Ziomkowski was born on 4 February 1888 in Port Austin, Michigan, United States to Vincent Ziombkowski and Katarzyna Polega. [1]

In 1900, Joseph was living in Walker Township, Kent, Michigan, United States with his parents and siblings. He was attending school. [2]

In 1910, Joseph was living with his parents and siblings in Grand Rapids Ward 9, Kent, Michigan, United States. He was working as a cabinet making in a factory. [3]

Joseph registered for the United States World War I draft on 5 June 1917. At the time, he was living in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan and working as a cabinet maker for Valley City Desk Company. He was of medium build and height and had blue eyes and light colored hair. [4]

Joseph enlisted in the United States National Army on 24 July 1918 at Camp Custer in Michigan. [5]

In 1920, Joseph was living in Grand Rapids Ward 1, Kent, Michigan, United States with his parents and brother, Stanley. Joseph continued to work as a cabinet maker in a furniture factory. [6]

Joseph married Florence Shelner on 30 Apr 1927 in Lucas, Ohio, United States. It was his first marriage, and her second. She had been widowed, and Shelner was the last name of her first husband. [7]

In 1930, Joseph and Florence lived in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, United States with Florence's son, Robert Shelner. Joseph worked as a cabinet maker for a furniture company.[8]

In 1940, Joseph was listed as widowed. He was living in Ward 1, Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids City, Kent, Michigan, United States with his sister-in-law, Rose Ziomkowski, and his nephews and niece, Anthony Ziomkowski, Leonard, Ziomkowski, and Irene Ziomkowski. Joseph worked as a finisher for a home appliance manufacturer. [9]

Joseph passed away on 20 April 1952 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, United States. [10] He is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. [11]

Joseph's obituary reads: "Joseph F. Ziomkowski, aged 64, of 1047 Park St., SW, a veteran of World War I, passed away Sunday evening at St. Mary's Hospital. Surviving are two sisters, Sr. M. Bonaventure, SSND, of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Helen Gaca; four brothers, John, Anthony, Louis, and Stanley, all of Grand Rapids. The deceased was a member of the American Legion post, Valley City No. 356. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Mr. Ziomkowski reposes at the Derezinski Funeral Home, where relatives and friends will recite the Rosary Tuesday evening at 7:30. [12]
