Death Of Well-Known Nonconformist Rev. Rowland Sturt, who passed peacefully away at Scarborough Lawn, Sydenham-road, Cheltenham, on Tuesday, was a very well known figure in Nonconformity in Gloucestershire, and former chairman of the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire Congregational Union.
Born in Portsmouth in 1858, and educated in Brighton, he lived Bournemouth in his teens. There, with his brother and late Lord Cairns, he started the Y.M.C.A.
At 19 he joined the Evangelisation Society, London, travelling through England and Wales on mission work with that society fox six years.
After this he entered the Congregational ministry and had a first pastorate in Stourport, Worcestershire.
