Is there any evidence of actual families using 'ÿ' is South Africa other than the occasions handwriting has been transcribed in this way?
posted by Riaan Serfontein
With no doubt "van der Bijl"

There is no such letter as ÿ in Dutch or inAfrikaans. The transcription should render the name as "van der Bijl" amd the LNAB should be corrected.
