勝純 (松浦) 井上 is Notable.

Matsura Sumiru was born in Tokyo on 1 July 1884, the eighth son and youngest child of Count Matsura Akira. He was adopted by his father-in-law, Viscount Inoue Masaru, and was known as Inoue Katsuzumi. In November 1906, he graduated from the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy along with 175 people as a member of the 34th class. He was commissioned as a naval officer with the rank of second lieutenant in December 1907. Katsuzumi succeeded his father-in-law as a Viscount (shishaku) in the kazoku system on 2 August 1910. He studied at Naval War College.

Katsuzumi was married to Inoue Chiyaeko, the daughter of his adoptive father. They had three children: Masako, Katsuhide and Kaneko. Of the three children, Kaneko, who was the second daughter and youngest child, died before Katsuzumi.

While traveling to the Hague in the Netherlands for a private study, Katsuzumi, with his family name romanised as "Inouye", left Yokohama on the Shinyo Maru on 30 December 1918, and arrived at San Francisco on January 15, 1919. He also conducted some studies in France.

In December 1923, Katsuzumi was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served as a military officer with the embassy of Japan in Germany. He departed from Plymouth, England on the Paris on 25 August 1927 and arrived at New York City on August 31, also with his family name written as "Inouye", after being recalled back to Tokyo. In December 1928, he reached his highest rank of colonel in the Navy. Katsuzumi was transferred to a reserve role with the Navy in December 1931. Afterward, he served in the House of Peers from August 1933 until he died on 15 September 1938 at the age of 54.

Inoue-20 and ??-53 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate, proper names must be in Japanese with romaji in other name fields because your ancestor was Japanese by birth. See the following links:

Hi Gregers,

I see that you have Inoue Masaru as the father of Inoue Katsuzumi. Based on what I saw on several genealogical websites and Wikipedia, it appears that Matsura Akira was the actual father of Katsuzumi, who was Akira's eighth son. Masaru was the adoptive father of Katsuzumi according to these sites. I am still in the process of requesting merges and I am willing to change the father of Katsuzumi from Inoue Masaru to Matsura Akira, in case you don't mind.

Thanks,

Nicolas
