Nagata Mikihiko was born in Tokyo on 1 March 1887. He was active in writing poetry during his early career as a writer. However, he is best known for his novels, including "Mio", "Reiraku" and "Gion yawa", as well as his lyrics, including those of "Gion kouta" and "Shima no musume". He died in Tokyo on 6 May 1964.
