The record from the family Bible in the possession of Mrs. Anna Baker, a granddaughter of Ballentine Bachelor Creekmore, husband of Mary Brown, was copied by another of his granddaughters, Jennie Foster, née Creekmore. This record indicated that Mary's father, Abel Brown, lived near Norfolk, Va.

Abel Brown is listed in Virginia Publick Claims as claimant for 4 bushels of salt, costing 4 pounds, 16 shillings.

Will of Abel Brown (Town of Portsmouth, Norfolk County) Dated 29 Oct. 1793, probated 17 Feb. 1794 Executrix: Wife, Elizabeth To Wife, use of my lands, stock & household goods, during her life or widowhood; without trouble from any of my children on account of bringing up the younger children. To son Edward: use of my lands, after his mother's death-during his life & if he has no lawful son, the said land to return to my youngest child; the land bound Horse Bridge Branch down to Tuckers line, with all buildings thereon. To nephew Bartlett, son of my brother: the same amount of acreage as my son Edward receives, after a survey is made- to begin at Tucker's line & go across to John Brown's line. Item: After my wife's death & raising of the children, all residue of my personal Est., as household goods, cattle, horses-shall be sold & money arising therefrom to be eq. divided amongst all my children.
