Biography

Jacob was born about 1810. He was the son of William Allbright and Sally Nelson. He passed away about 1860.

Research Notes

The only thing we know for certain about this particular Jacob Allbright comes from the death certificate of his son William Nelson Allbright ( June1840 - 29 March 1821). The death certificate lists his parents as Jacob Allbright and Caroline Austin and his place of birth as Franklin County, Georgia. William Nelson may be the William listed on the 1850 Census for Franklin County, Georgia. However, the William of the 1850 Census was listed above Jacob and as residing in the neighbor’s household, and his date of birth would be 1838 instead of 1840. These may both be transposition errors.

A statement from Jacob’s grandson, William Ireland Allbright (1908), tells us:

“My grandfather (W. N. Allbright) age 24 from Tennessee, enlisted in Terry’s Texas Rangers, Private, September 1861, Bastrop, Texas. When the Civil War was over—He got his discharge and went back to Tennessee. Then he came back to Texas in a wagon and settled at staples near the San Marcos river. He then married Fredonia Murf and raised his family there” (notes of Lee Lance Allbright).

It is not clear when, or, if William Nelson moved to Tennessee alone or with his family.

Tempy C. Austin None of the Albright genealogy books mention Tempy C. Austin; however there is a marriage record from Rabun County, Georgia, in 1840, between a Jacob Allbright and Tempy C. Austin. This is the only marriage record I’ve found. Rabun County abuts both North Carolina and South Carolina and it is likely she was the Caroline Austin married to this Jacob Allbright.

Caroline (Albright) Arnold was listed as born in South Carolina on the 1860 and 1870 Census, and is roughly the correct age to be the Caroline married to Jacob Allbright. Comparing ages in the 1860 and 1870 Census, one is definitely wrong (most likely a transposition error), if she was the Caroline married to Jacob Allbright she was most likely 36 or 38 in the 1860 Census. Caroline is listed as age 48 in the 1870 Census.

The children listed on the 1860 Census, have the last name Albright, but do not have the same names as McCain and Albright's lists, with the exception of Mary. The Mary listed in the 1850 Census is close to the same age as the Mary in the 1860 Census (transposition error?). There would be a 2 year difference in age if this is the same person.

Caroline Arnold is listed as born in South Carolina in the1860 and 1870 Census. Additionally, the listing of S.C Albright could be another error as this person would be the same age as Johnson Albright who was listed in the 1860 Census, but is not listed in the 1870 Census.
