I have removed George, Prince of Wales (son of George II of England) and his wife as parents for John Augustus. They can be reattached if evidence is forthcoming. PPP and England Project management to prevent reattachment. Fitz-Henry-9 22:34, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Biography

John Augustus was born in Germany and presumably his parents are unknown (see Research Notes for false parentage).

He came to America in 1753 and for five years he was indentured to John Garrett in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania [1]. He moved to New Castle County, Delaware where in married Elizabeth Springer a daughter of John and Maria (Hendrickson) Springer [2, 3]. John served in the American Revolution [2, 5].

When John Augustus had planned to move west with his family; however, his father-in-law, John Springer, promised him his estate if he would stay in Delaware and care for Springer, who was blind, and Springer's three blind children, William, Mary and Rebecca.

John Augustus made his will on the 26th of December 1809, children named in his will were Hannah McMinn, Margaret Graves, Jacob, David, John, Enoch ('s children), Catherine Robinson, Elizabeth ('s daughter) and Springer [5]. John and Elizabeth are buried at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Owls Nest, Delaware.

Research Notes

This profile originally had parents Frederick Ludwig Augustus and Augusta Walmoden, who had the same birth and death dates as Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales and his wife Augusta, Princess of Saxe-Gotha, parents of George III, King of Great Britain.

Needless to say, there is no evidence that they had such a child and no explanation as to why a full brother of George III would adopt a different name.

It's possible that the story of the birth of John Augustus, is a garbled version of the birth in 1736 of Johann Ludwig von Wallmoden, presumed to be the illegitimate son of George II Augustus, King of Great Britain (father of Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales) and his mistress, Amalie Sophie Marianne von Wallmoden, created Countess of Yarmouth but again his life is well-documented and he can't be the same person as John Augustus.

Thanks for pointing out the problems with the parentage of John. I won't spend any more energy on the matter.
