James Boutell was the son of James and Alice Boutell, of Lynn, Massachusetts. His father emigrated about 1632, and settled first at Salem, before removing to Lynn. [1]
In the will of his father, James Bowtell of Lynn Massachusetts, written on 22: 6 mo: 1651 (August 22, 1651), James was given 'one bull calfe'. [Essex Co. Quarterly Court Files: vol. 2: leaf 24][2]
He married Rebecca Kendall on June 15, 1665 at Reading Massachusetts. Rebecca was born there on Feb. 10, 1644, daughter of Deacon Thomas Kendall. [3]
James Bowtell is one those names in the record of agreement concerning the inventory of the estate of Thomas Kendall, approved by the court on Oct. 4, 1681 [4] and is referred to as son-in-law. [5]
His wife Rebecca died at Reading, Massachusetts on Aug. 30, 1713, aged 69 years. [3]
James Boutell died at Reading on Dec. 5, 1716. [3]
Probate Record
The will of James Bouttall Sr. was written on August 23, 1715. He names his sons Thomas and Kendall as executors.[6]
In it he left bequests to:

grandson James, however should he die before coming of age then to my grandson ?Sam'll
