Biography

Mary was born in 1903 at Brentford, Middlesex, England, to parents John Brinley and Mary Ann Jackson^[1]. She grew up in wealth and comfort, and her father worked as a biscuit maker, East India Agent, insurance broker, ship broker, dealer, and Chapman.

During her childhood, Mary Ann lived at places such as Paradise Street, Rotherhithe; 1 Bell Court, Mincing Lane, St Dunstan in the East; and Dover Place, Saint Mary, Newington.

Mary Ann married Henry Leffler by license on 10 May 1830 at St Mary, Newington^[2]. They settled at Islington, Middlesex and had 10 children. Henry worked as a clerk at the Bank of London^[3].

Henry died in 1857, leaving Mary Ann with young children to care for. By 1861, she was lived at 46 Orchard Road, Old Brentford. Two of her sons - Frances and John (Clerk - Merchant Officer) were living with her.

By 1871, the family had moved to Lithna Crescent, Duddeston cum Nechells, Warwickshire[5]. Mary Ann died in 1903 at Brentford, Middlesex, England^[4].
