Mary Ann was born in about 1783. Birth location and parents can't be confirmed, but one Ancestry researcher has suggested her parents may be Richard Jackson and Margaret Pintherin. This Mary Ann was baptised on 19 December 1783 at St Mary, Rotherhithe, Southwark, Surrey and considering her father's name matching the name of her first born son, her birth year and location, and that a Richard and Margaret Jackson were witnesses at her wedding to John Short Brinley, it looks like a strong match.
She married John Short Brinley by license on 14 August 1808 at St Saviour, Southwark. At the time of their marriage, he was living at St. John, Wapping, and Mary Ann was living at St Saviour, Southwark[1].
They had four children: Richard Jackson, Mary Ann, John (died as an infant), and John, and they took on the guardianship of a cousin's son who went into the United East India Company as a military seminary cadet[2].
John worked as a ship agent, insurance agent, East India Agent, and Insurance Broker. The family lived in wealth and comfort for most of their lives, but in 1825, John was declared bankrupt[3].
Mary Ann died at Camberwell, London in 1831 at the age of 48, leaving John with three children to care for - Richard Jackson (22), Mary Ann (19), and John (7)[4]. John died on 18 March 1854 at Pudding Lane, London[5].
