Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1821. She is the daughter of John Broadfoot and Agnes McDowall. According to her biography at Find A Grave, she emigrated to New York in the early 1850's. She was said to have sent photos to her sister, Agnes, of herself and husband, in the 1880's. ^[1]

Marriage

She married James Burns on 23 January 1844 in Whithorn, Wigtown, Scotland. ^[2] In the 1841 census, James had been living with the family, listed as a "male servant." ^[3]

Emigration

Elizabeth emigrated from Liverpool, England, bound for the Port of New York aboard the Yorkshire. They arrived 29 August 1853. ^[4] With her were husband, James, and children:

• Elizabeth Burns, aged 8
• Agnes Burns, aged 6
• Patrick Burns, aged 4
• Ann Burns, aged 2

Death

Elizabeth died 18 November 1892 in Manchester, Ontario, New York, United States and was buried in Brookside Cemetery in Shortsville, New York. ^{[5] [1]} Her cemetery inscription read:

Elizabeth Bradford, wife of James Burns. Born at Reifer Park, Wigtonshire, Scotland, Sept. 14, 1824. Died Nov. 18, 1892. "Gone but not forgotten" ^[1]
