John David (Jock) Broadfoot was born on 7 November 1916 at Silkstone, Ipswich in Queensland, Australia. He was the son of Walter Broadfoot and Essie Miller.

Lance Corporal John Broadfoot served in the Australian Army in World War II Service started: 1 April 1940 Unit(s): 2nd 13th Field Company Service ended: 12 July 1942
He joined the 2nd Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 1 April 1940 and served during World War 2 (QX7008). He trained initially at Enoggera (near Brisbane) then Greta (in the Hunter Valley). He received pre-embarkation leave from 3 to 10 July 1940. He embarked from Sydney on R.M.S. Strathallen on 10 August 1940 and disembarked in Palestine on 27 October 1940. He was wounded by a gunshot wound to his left thigh on on 23 July 1941, back on duty in September. He was appointed to Lance Corporal on 5 March 1942. He was assigned to the 2/13 Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers, 9th Division.[2]
Private John Broadfoot was killed in action during World War II.
He was killed in action on 12 July 1942 and buried at El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
