Matthew Brockbank was born in Lancashire, England.

Matthew was born in Ulverston, Lancashire, England, in 1853.^[1] His birth was registered in the third quarter. He was the son of James Brockbank and Dinah Nicholson. He was baptized on July 24, 1853, in Ulverston.^[2] He was enumerated in the 1861, ^[3] 1871, ^[4] and 1881 census ^[5] residing with his family in Ulverston. In 1881, he stated he was twenty seven, single, and a "Railway Clerk".

Matthew married Jane Sanders in 1884.^[6] The marriage was registered in the fourth quarter in Ulverston. The couple would have four children. Matthew was enumerated in the 1891, ^[7] 1901, ^[8] and 1911 census ^[9] residing with his family in Ulverston. He stated his occuaption as "Railway Clerk".

Matthew passed away in 1933.^[10] His death was registered in the fourth quarter in Ulverston.
