Biography

Hiram was born in 1851. He was the son of Peter Brosius and Christianna Schumacher. He passed away in 1934.

Death claimed another of Brookville's prominent resident's Sunday, December 23, 1933, when Hiram H. Brosius, oldest member and senior member of the Jefferson County Bar, died at his home in South Pickering street at 3:45 p. m. He was in his 83rd year.

Mr. Brosius, who was a life-long resident of the county, and prominent in its affairs for the past quarter century, was born in Rose township, September 18, 1851, a son of Peter and Christianna (Shoemaker) Brosius, one a family of 12 children.

His early years were spent on the farm. He received his education at Belleview, Corsica and Rimersburg academies and Oberlin College, at Oberlin, Ohio. From 1869 to 1878, he taught school in the county and then began reading law in the office of Hon. George A. Jenks and E. H. Clark, in Brookville.

He was admitted to the Jefferson County Bar April 5, 1880, and until fo his death occupied a prominent place m in the legal profession. At one time Mr. Brosius served two terms in the State Legislature. He a was first elected in 1912 and was re-elected in 1914. The deceased was high in the councils of the First Presbyterian Church in which he was an elder, a trustee, and also treasurer of the church.

Mr. Brosius was always a lover of outdoor life. He was a member of The Pinecrest Country Club and an a active golfer until the past year or so.

In 1880 he was married to Miss Mary Graham, daughter of Robert H. and Matilda (Gordon) Graham. Mrs. Brosius survives with their one son, Lewis G., who has been associated with his father in the first (sic- firm) of Brosius & Brosius since 1910. Surviving brothers and sisters are: S. R. and J. B. Brosius, of Rose township; D. M. Brosius, of Punxsutawney, and Mrs. Joseph F. Jamison, of Clarion.

He was buried in the family lot in Brookville Cemetery[2].
