Mary Brownson, the youngest child of Roger and Mary (Underwood) Brownson was born possibly in March 1622-3, shortly before her mother's death. Mary's baptism was not recorded in the baptism records of Earl's Colne, Essex.[1]
Mary was raised by her stepmother Margaret, and was an extremely rebellious and "high-spirited girl - to the point of being a juvenile delinquent. She accompanied her older brothers, John and Richard, to the New World when still a very young girl. Once there, she apparently lacked adequate adult supervision. In the Spring of 1640, four boys (John Olmstead, Jonathan Rudd, John Pierce, and Nicholas Olmstead) got into trouble with the authorities for "wanton dalliances, lacivious caridge, and fowle mysdemeanors at sundry times with Mary Brunson." Mary and the first three boys were "corrected;" Nicholas Olmsted was fined and pilloried.[1] Another reference: "Mary Brunson, now the wiefe of Nicolas Disborough, Jno. Olmstead, Jonathan Rudd and Jno. Peerce were corrected for wanton dallaince and selfe pollution".[2]
Mary Bronson was born 6 Mar 1623 Chelmsford, Essex, England. Her christening was Mar 1623 Earl's Colne, Essex, England[citation needed]
Mary Brownson married: Nicholas Disbrough before April 2, 1640, at Hartford, Connecticut.[1] Their precise marriage date is unknown.[4] Uncited sources state that they married on March 01, 1639/40
Their known children are:[5]
Mary Brownson Disborough died probably at Hartford, by 1670; her death date was not recorded. and her widower Nicholas remarried thereafter. [1][4] Uncited sources state that she died about 22 Sep 1669,
The third generation down from the first documented Brunson progenitor (Cornelius Brownson, b. 1525) was Roger Brownson (1576-1635). He was born at Earl’s Colne, England. He was a tailor. He married at Lamarsh, Essex in 1600 Mary Lamarsh, Essex, England
At one point, Mary Brunson/Brownson the wife of early immigrant Nicholas DIsborough Jr was mistakenly shown as Mary Disborough who married William Prindle (also seen as Pringle) in 1655 at New Haven, Connecticut. Likely the belief was that William's wife was widow of Nicholas. However, Nicholas outlived Mary Brownson, so the wife of Walter Prindle was a different woman. Whether her last name at birth was "Disborough" is not known, as her origins are not known.
