Loise Brünges,[1] who was usually known as Elizabeth Brunjes[2]
(and also known as 'Elizabeth Brungers'[3][4])
was born on 9 January 1890,[1][2]
at 136 Morris Street, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey,[1][4]
to Henry Brunjes and Johanna Jahr.[1][5][3]
In 1895, she was living with her parents and siblings in Union Township, Hudson County, New Jersey.
[5]
In 1905, she was living with her parents and siblings at 134 Essex Street, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.
She was a cigar buncher.
[2]
On 17 June 1905, she married Charles Woessner, at the German Church on Henderson Street, opposite City Hall, in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.
Charles was a driver, and was living at 104 Essex Street, Jersey City.
Lizzie was living at 134 Essex Street.
Walter and Emilie Hutshins were the witnesses.
[3]
Because she didn't tell her parents, her mother filed a complaint against Woessner.
During the hearing, Eliza and Charles both claimed they were married, and the minister who married them confirmed it.
But she had claimed to be eighteen.
The judge gave her mother the opportunity to object, but she consented to the marriage, and Charles Woessner was discharged.
[6]
Charles and Eliza apparently had at least these children:[7]
On 3 January 1920, she married William Henry Jostes, at 619 Ferry Street, Newark, Essex County, New Jersey.
They both reported their address as 619 Ferry Street; they were both widowed.
William was a machinist.[4]
In 1920, Eliza and William were living at 610 Ferry Street, Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, with their children.
William was a machinist.
[7]
She presumably died by 1930, since her husband is listed as widowed in the 1930 census.[9]
But the New Jersey death index does not include an entry for her death,[10]
and no newspaper report of her death has been found.[11][12][13]
Research Notes
Is the birth certificate hers?
The birth certificate is for Loise Brünges, and all other known records report her personal name as 'Elizabeth' or 'Eliza'.
Loise w)as a child of Heinrich and Johanna, because (a) the recorded parents' names ('Henry Brünges' and 'Jenny Jaar') are obvious variants, and (b) the birth place is next door to the birth place of her older brother Dietrick, who was born at 134 Morris Street.
That Loise and Elizabeth are the same person is very probable, since Loise's birth date matches Eliza's birth date in the 1905 census (January 1905),[2], and and no death record has been found for Loise.

'MARRIED 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL AND WAS ARRESTED
'But Charles Woessner Was Discharged When He Proved Marriage and Mother-in-Law Consented.
'A slender fifteen-year-old girl stood up in the First Criminal Court this morning and confessed that she was the bride of Charles Woessner, 28 years old, of 104 Essex Street, a driver employed by Truckman Somers. Her husband was a prisoner in the dock, but when the marriage was proved he was released, as the mother of the girl declared that she was satisfied inasmuch as her daughter had been married.
'The girl bride had not been home in two weeks, and the mother, who heard that she had been over in New York, brought the matter to the attention to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. TThe [sic] society made an invesetigation [sic], and as a result Woessner was arrested.
'When the case was called this morning the young bride's mother and sister, Miss Emma Brungers, of 134 Sussex Street, appeared as complainants. The latter testified that she heard that her sister Lizzie had been married, and that she made an investigation, but wasn't satisfied with what she found.
'The bride testified in behalf of her husband. "We are man and wife," she said, with a toss of her head.
'"When were you married?" asked the Court.
'"Two weeks ago to-day," replied the bride.
'"Where were you married?"
'"At the German church on Henderson Street, opposite the City Hall."
'"Where is your marriage certificate?"
'"I didn't bring it with me."
'The prisoner corroborated his wife. "We had better find out if the story of the marriage is true," said the Court.
'"Counselor James W. Donelman, Jr., who appeared for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, volunteered to go up to the church and interview the clergyman. He returned a few minutes later and stated that the marriage was performed two weeks ago, the girl giving her age as eighteen.
'"This girl is under the age of consent," said the Court to the mother, "but if you consent to the marriage we cannot hold this prisoner."
'The mother replied that she would not interposeany [sic] objection now that the marriage had been confirmed, and so Woessner was discharged.'
