Biography

Arvillien Catalan is a part of US Black heritage.

Arvillien Catalan, son of Godefriod Catalan,^[1] was born about 1833 in Louisiana in the United States of America. ^[2]

Arvillien was enslaved before the American Civil War. While enslaved, he was married and had several children. After the war, they divorced in Vermillion Parish, Louisiana.^[3]

Arvilien married Loise Hebert in 1866.^[4]

In 1872, he married Felicia Foreman.^[5] Felicia was his second wife.^[3] They lived in Vermillion Parish, Louisiana, where Arvillien farmed. They had a large family - the 1900 census said that Felicia had had 16 children, 9 of whom were living at the time.^[2]

In the 1900 census, Arvilien (age 70), Farmer, was the married head of household in Broussard Cove, Vermillion, Louisiana.^[6]

Arvillien died sometime between 1910, when he was enumerated in the 1910 census,^[7] and 1913 when a lawsuit over his estate was settled.^[3]
