Biography

James was born in 1847. He passed away in 1916. Last use of "Cater" was on his marriage record, used "Cator" for every record thereafter.

He is the son of Otis Cater and Lovey Canney.

  • Petaluma Daily Morning Courier, January 25, 1916, page 3:

Cator James. The death occurred in San Francisco January 21 of James Henry Cator, father of Mrs. Will Winans of this city. The news of the death will be regrettted in this city where the deceased was well known and where he frequently visited with his daughter and her family. The late Mr. Cator is survived by his widow Mary Helen Caton and the following children: Oro 4, Albert H. Cator. Mr. Will Winans, Petaluma, and the' late Mae Helen McFarland. He also leaves two grandchildren Helen and Edith Winans. The deceased was a native of New Hampshire aged 67 years. The funeral took place yesterday from Trumans chapel, San Francisco. The Interment was private. Mrs. Winans and family attended the service.
