When Abel CHASE and his twin sister Adel were born on August 9, 1750, in Sutton, Massachusetts, their father, Ambrose, was 36 and their mother, Thankful, was 36. He married Elizabeth ELLIOTT on November 30, 1768, in his hometown. They had 15 children in 28 years. He died on January 4, 1806, in Croydon, New Hampshire, at the age of 55.

Acting as Private in Capt. Henry Haskell's Company of Minute-men, the Regiment of Col. James Prescott's Regt., which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775 to Marshfield and returned home April 24, 1775; service, 7 days.
Again answering the call in Capt. Job Shattuck's Company, the Regiment of Col. John Robinson's; service, 8 days; roll dated Cambridge, March 1776.
He enlisted on 27 Jul 1777 in Capt. Aaron Jewett's 5th MA Company, the Regiment Col. Job Cushing's 1st Massachusetts and was discharged Aug. 29, 1777; service, 1 mo. 3 days. They marched to Bennington on an alarm. The company was raised from Littleton, Westford, Groton, Shirley, Townsend and Ashby.
Capt. Aaron Jewett's Company, Col. Samuel Bullard's regt.; recruited him to enlist on Aug. 29, 1777 on their march to Saratoga. He was discharged Nov. 29, 1777 after 3 months and 1 day of service.[1]
A descriptive list of enlisted men raised to serve in the Continental Army in 1779; Capt. Ingoldsby's Company, Col. Cushing's Regiment he was age, 25 yrs.; stature, 5 ft. 11 in.; complexion, dark; a residence of Shrewsbury, MA. [2]
It has been reported mustered by Thomas Newhall, Muster Master, July 9, 1779; marched July 21, 1779; delivered to Ensign J. Hubble; as a Private, for Capt. Howden's Company., Col. Timothy Bigelow's (15th) Regiment where he enlisted July 23, 1779; discharged April 23, 1780; enlistment, 9 months.
He was a member of the Committee to consider a 3rd Article of the “Bill of Rights.” [3]
