Ludwig Clapp, was born in 1742, in Berks County Pennsylvania, the son of John Ludwig Clapp, and Anna Margaret Strader. Ludwig died on 20 January 1834 in Guilford County, North Carolina. He is buried in the Brick Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery, Guilford County, North Carolina.

According to Albert W. Francis' application to the SAR, John Ludwig (or Loedwick) Clapp served in the American Revolution. He enlisted in the Spring of 1776 and served four months as a Private under Capt. Whitesell and Colonels Paisley and Martin. Also served on a great many short tours until 1781, amounting to not less than two years, under Captains Whitesell and Forbes, and Colonels Gillaspie and Paisley. North Carolina Line. Engaged in expeditions against the Cherokee Indians.

According to Steve Clapp's website, this family had both a John Clapp and a John Ludwig born on the same day in 1772, married to different women and ending up in different states.

He owned a lot on 23 July 1770 in Orange Co., NC. "Page 601, 23 July 1770, Thomas Lowe & Lydia his wife of Orange to Lodwick Clapp of same, one pound ten shillings, 3/4 acre, Lot No. 16 in a town laid out by Lowe, part of a larger tract from McCullock, on waters of Stinking Quarter Cr.; signed: Thos. Lowe; witness: John Hawkins, David Lowe; proved July Term 1770 by David Lowe. (Ed. note: see also N.C. Patent Book 19:449.)"

Ludwick gave an oath in August 1791 in Orange Co., NC. Aug Court Term 1791 (2115 - 371)

"The execution of a Deed from Jacob Albright to George Albright was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Ludwick Clapp one of the subscribing Witnesses thereto & ordered to be Registered."

He died on 20 January 1834 at the age of 92 in Guilford Co., NC. Revolutionary War pensioner. Listed in Indiana DAR book, DAR 929.1, Greensburg, In. Library. Enlisted 1776 under Captain Whitsell and Col. Paisley, also served under Forbes Martin and Gillespie. Descendant: SHUTT, Malinda (Mrs. Frank), No. 338423. Fought in the Battle of Guilford's Courthouse.

He apprenticed in Philadelphia for 7 years with a cycle maker. He was a blacksmith, gunsmith, farmer. In his later years he operated a gunsmith and blacksmith shop.

Listed as being associated with the Regulator movement in Orange Co, NC - a Whig.

Sophia Catherine ALBRIGHT, daughter of Jacob ALBRIGHT and Sophia Catherine WELDER, was born in September 1749 in Berks Co., PA. She was baptized on 3 September 1749 in Reformed Church, Bern Twp., Berks Co., PA. She died in 1821 at the age of 72 in Guilford Co., NC. Sophia was buried in 1821 in Brick Church Cemetery, Guilford Co., NC. Baptized 3 Sep 1749, Reformed Church, Bern Twp., Berks Co., PA. Buried in the Brick Church Cemetery, Guilford Co., NC.

Clap-78 and Clapp-1256 appear to represent the same person because: These sure look like the same person. I have added possible sources as research notes to Clapp-1256. I have removed a previous rejected match of these profiles that had no explanation for the rejection. If this merge is rejected, please provide an explanation, because it sure looks right.
Clapp-1606 and Clap-78 do not represent the same person because: Dang it, they are all named the same thing ... I meant to initiate merge with father.
