Biography
John was baptised on 21 April 1693 at Holy Trinity Hurstpierpoint as the son of William and Susanna Courtness.
A Fleet Marriage of 2 May 1719 saw John Courtness marry Elizabeth Marchant - John was a mercer, of Hurstpierpoint and a bachelor whilst Elizabeth was a spinster and also of Hurstpierpoint. The event is recorded in "A Fine Day in Hurstpierpoint - a diary of Thomas Marchant 1714-1728" in which he writes for "The 1st May 1719 - my sister Betty went away with John Courtness last night."
