Patrick was the second son of Andrew Drummond. As a very young man he served as Duke of Bowillion in France as a governor to his children. He served the Duke until the Duke died. After the Duke died, Patrick served in the court of King Charles the First. He became one of his gentleman usher. He later served as the Conservator for the Scots in Camphere in Low Countries (Holland) by 1638 and was knighted before October 1640. [1] He was removed as lord conservator in 1640 due his views against the Covenantor movement, also losing his position as an elder of the church.[2]
Patrick married Dame Margaret Porterfield, daughter of the Comistown in Lothan. They had no children.[1]

There was a large dispute with this with matter being taken to General Assembly and threats being made. After much ado, the stone was erected and eventually was removed.[3][2]
