Biography

Helen was born in 1922. She was the daughter of Harry Fulmer and Myrtle Edwards. Helen married Paul W. Ulmer on Christmas Day, 1941. Together, they raised four children She passed away in Marietta, Ohio on 25 Sep 2006 at the age of 84. She is buried with her husband of 64 years in East Lawn Memorial Park in Reno, Ohio.

Helen I. Fulmer Ulmer, 84, former resident of the Oak Grove community, Marietta, died at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 3:45 p.m. Monday (Sept. 25, 2006).

She was born March 12, 1922, in New Matamoras, a daughter of the late Harry A. and Myrtle Edwards Fulmer. She was a graduate of Marietta High School with the class of 1940 and attended Ohio University. She was selected to join the National Honor Society in her junior year. Helen was first of all a mother and a homemaker, but was also employed at Remington Rand and later at the Marietta Concrete Corporation. She also served at the Marietta YMCA Day Care Center and was a Realtor sales person for Logue and Schwartz Realtors. She was later broker and manager of Ulmer Real Estate and was later broker and owner of Colonial Real Estate Co. She had been president of the Marietta PTA Council for two years from 1961 to 1963. She attended the Church of Christ at Sixth and Washington streets and when the new Harmar Hill Church of Christ was built, she and her husband were charter members.

On Dec. 25, 1941, she was married to Paul Ulmer, who survives with three sons, Richard Ulmer (Diane) of Green Valley, Ariz., and Raymond H. Ulmer (Judy) and Karl E. Ulmer (Gail) of Marietta; one daughter, Karen U. Brown (Steven) of New Egypt, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clyde Fulmer and Floyd Fulmer; and three sisters, Ruth Cham, Hazel Wagner and Claretta Sarver.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Harmar Hill Church of Christ with Evangelist Steven Brown and Evangelist J.D. Conley officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 p.m. Thursday until Friday morning at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services at the church. The family will be present to greet friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral services.
