Biography

John Gann lived in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

John Gann was the eldest child of Ignatius Nathan Gann and his unnamed first wife, born about 1777-1778. Many online trees claim his mother was Susan Delaney, but this is incorrect. Susan was Ignatius Gann's third or fourth wife. The couple married long after John Gann was an adult, married, and having children of his own. His mother's name may have been Susan, but she was not Susan Delaney.

John married Rebecca Massengill on 28 June 1809 in Washington County, Tennessee. He is recorded as living in Cocke County as early as 1830. Cocke County, Tennessee, is about 50 miles west of Washington County.
