Biography

Jonas was the son of Joseph Gilson and his second wife Elizabeth. The genealogy of the Gilson and Jillson family states that Jonas Gilson married Hannah Goodrich on November 8, 1727 in Groton, Massachusetts. The Early vital records of Massachusetts show he married Hannah Goodridge on November 8, 1726 in Groton, Both of Turkey Hill. They moved to Lunenburg by 1728

The genealogy of the Gilson and Jillson Family has Jonas without a birth date found. There is no record in Groton, Chelmsford, Concord or even Lunenburg in the early vital records for Jonas' birth. A search with various spellings, Gilson, Gilsom, Gillson, Gellsun and Jillson done. Cunnighams History of Lunenburg gives his birth date as May 1707

Jonas died after September 5, 1733 and before March 5, 1744

On September 5, 1733, Jonas, deceased is mentioned when land was surveyed for Jonathon Whitney " The Proprietors' records of the town of Lunenburg, Massachusetts...pg 80... https://archive.org/stream/proprietorsrecor1729lune#page/n183/mode/2up but note is says Jonas Gibson....Errata Page states it should be Jonas Gilson... https://archive.org/stream/proprietorsrecor1729lune#page/n23/mode/2up/search/Gilson

The genealogy of the Gilson and Jillson Family states Jonas died Oct 1737. Cunningham History of Lunenburg states that Jonas died Oct 20, 1737.

Probate

Jonas Gilson of Lunenburg, yeoman died intestate and on 7 November 1739, his widow Hannah was granted the administration of his estate.[1][2]

His inventory was taken on 1 November 1739 in Lunenburg.[3]

In 1744, an account of his estate by his widow Hannah was recorded which included a legacy from his father, cash received, doctor, funeral charges, debts paid, bringing up the children, and administration fees.[4]

In 1750, his estate was set out to his widow Hannah, now wife of Francis Butterick, and his children, Eunice Hazeltine, Joseph Gilson, Jonas Gilson (eldest son), and Prudence Gilson.[5]

In 1750, Nathaniel Page of Lunenburg was appointed guardian of his son, Joseph, aged about 11 years old.[6]

FYI -- the _1690_ birth record of Anna Gilson, oldest child of Joseph, as accessed via NEHGS, shows her mother as _Elizabeth_. This strongly supports the idea that Joseph had only one wife, Elizabeth, who was identical with "Hepzibah". Otherwise, a claimed 1689 marriage to Hepzibah was painfully short... and Joseph remarried in very short order. ... Your work in tracking Jonas is admirable...
