In 1743, Jonas, aged about 15 years, nominated Jonathan Willard of Lunenburg to be his guardian.[8]

Jonas Gilson did not leave a will and his estate was administered by his widow Sarah, later Sarah Carter wife of James Carter. The estate inventory was made 6 December 1759 with real estate £67. The real estate was sold to settle the estate and after payment of debts and costs, there was an estate balance of £18.8.3 of which £17.15.6 was the amount of the dower (one-third of the sale value of the real estate) and the remainder for the heirs.[9] On 17 January 1763, Sarah and James Carter petitioned the General Court to be allowed to sell the real estate which was of little value in order to pay the debts of the estate and to allow some funds for the support of Jonas’s two children.[10]
Jonas and Sarah were parents of two children born at Lunenburg.[11]
