In the 1920 Census enumerated on 19 & 20 April 1920 in Childress, Texas, William was married to Lizzie (59) - seemingly the younger sister, Sarah Elizabeth Scott of his first wife, Mary Elinor Scott.[6]
William, son of Jim Good & Polly Ann Toombs, died on 17 February 1921 in Childress, Childress, Texas, United States.[7][8][9]
W.d's daughter Susie May Huckaby died on 12 October 1934 in Pensacola, Escambia, Florida, United States.[10]
William Ira Goad (1850-1921) was born in Maury County, TN. His father, James Reison Goad (1831-1861), died of measles at Camp Cheatham before seeing any action as a confederate soldier. William would have been only eleven years old. Other than a few photographs, a post card, and my grandfather's notes there are only fragments of family information about William. He married Mary Ellenor Scott (1848-1912) in 1869.
Sometime after marrying, they moved to Repton, AL. It wasn’t right away; as, all their children were born in Tennessee. The last, Agnes Elizabeth, was born in 1889. The rail connection that arrived in Repton in 1907 (According to www.american-rails.com). This may have been part of the motivation for him to move to Repton. They seem to have arrived in Repton in anticipation of or along with the rail line arriving - given his work as a rail laborer in 1900, he likely knew of the new locations or it may have been where he was working when he decided to try something new. William’s daughter, Susie May and Alvie Huckaby were married in Wayne County, Tennessee in 1904 and his granddaughter, Mary Edna Huckaby, was born in Central Mills a few miles west of Selma, AL in 1907.
It seems reasonable that he and his son-in-law built the store pictured here in 1907 or 1908. They didn’t operate the store long because a fire raged through Repton in 1910 destroying much of the town, including the store. William’s wife, Mary Ellenor, died in 1912. Shortly afterwards, William moves to Childress, TX to be with his oldest son, Andrew. William is buried in Childress, Tx in 1921.
