Biography

Albert was born in October, 1899 in Oak Lawn, Illinois to Fred and Pauline Gunther. The family immigrated to the Lanigan, Saskatchewan area in 1907. Albert married Ada Prange in November 1924. Albert had a 1/4 section of land, but no buildings. Work was scarce in the Lanigan area so they moved to Chicago, where they both had relatives. In 1926, Albert's dad bought a farm and asked them to return and work it. They missed their families so they loaded their household effects and their Ford Coupe in a freight car and returned to Lanigan.

They tried farming for eleven years before they decided to quit and move to Lanigan. Albert became a saleman who bought old batteries, metal and old iron. In 1945, he became an auctioneer, a vocation he had until 1974. In 1972, his son Bud became his assistant and in 1987, Brian became Bud's assistant. In 1986, Albert's name was entered as an Auctioneer in the Hall of Fame in North Battleford. Albert and Ada raised three children: Adeline, Clarence and Donald (Bud). Albert died in 1984 in Lanigan.
