Biography
Lena was born about 1889 to Nicholas Gyer and Dorothy Walz. [1]
She married William McCarthy in 1908.[2][1]
In 1920 William 36, a chauffer, and Lena (Helena), 32, a skein winder at a woolen mill, are living at 498 High Street in Holyoke with daughter Jeanette, 9. Living with them is a lodger, Frieda Waltz- a cousin of Lena's? (Her mother's maiden name was Walz).[3]
They separated by 1930, William, a chauffer, living with his family at 186 Brown Ave. and Lena, 42, living with newly married daughter Jeanette,19, and her husband, Walter Worsnop, 22. Lena is working as a spooler in a cotton mill.[4][5]
The 1940 census shows Lena, 51, still living with daughter Jeanette Worsnop, 29, and her husband Walter, 42, a saleman, in Holyoke with their son Robert, 8. Lena's father, Nicholas Gyer, 78, is also living with the family.[6]
