Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Anne (Holmes) Meriwether was a Virginia colonist.

Ann Holmes was born on 19 Dec 1695 per the biography written by The Meriwether Society on Find A Grave. Some researchers have 1692.

She married David Meriwether about 1712 in Virginia. [1]

Children: Thomas, David H, Francis, Anne, Nicholas, Sarah, James, William. [2]

She died at age 40 on 11 Mar 1736 in Hanover County, Virginia. [3]

Research

Most researchers have her father listed as George Holmes, but no definite proof has been found. Guy Benson wrote on the Meriwether Rootsweb mailing list in 2000, now defunct: "Her father might be George HOOMES instead of HOLMES. Many records say Holmes but there is a land patent issued to a George HOOMES, Jr. on 16 Jun 1727. That is the same day that Nicholas Meriwether was issued a patent for 13,762 acres (increased to 17,952 acres in 1730) which adjoined the Hoomes patent separated by a small strip."

Holmes-8312 and Holmes-3672 appear to represent the same person because: I didn't get a pop-up from WikiTree about possible duplicate when I was entering, so this needs study. There is some similarity between them, including some children and husband. I can't tell from yours about your sources, so I'll have to let you decide (you can click on mine). BIG difference in birth place, so that should help decide.

Cheers, Cousin Bruce
