This biography originated as a GEDCOM import but was redone by John deRoche, based on the work of Barriault (see Sources list), esp. pp. 103-105. Material in italics is direct quotation (in translation).
Jean Huault was also called "de Gilberdière". (I don't know specifically whether this was a sort of nickname or a reference to the name of his land, as in "Sieur de Gilberdière" - J.deR.) Barriault says (p. 104) he found the man was often identified as Jean Huault son of Jean son of Pierre...to avoid confusion with his name-mate, Jean Huault son of Jean son of Vigor, who also lived in Champeaux in the same period.
Like the man his daughter Jacqueline married, George DesRoches (& Georges' father Michel), Jean Huault de Gilberdière could sign his name with a literate flourish. As Barriault notes, this was quite a rarity at the time.
He was born at Champeaux around mid-Nov, then baptized there on 1 Dec 1643. At the age of almost 35, he married Jeanne Jouey (of Angey parish - see her profile) at Champeaux in mid-July 1678. Jeanne was only 18 years old at the time. The list of signing witnesses on their marriage certificate comprises: the local nobleman, Sir [écuyer] Gilles de Chabert, Seigneur of Champeaux; the bride's father, Samson Jouey; the groom's father, Jean Huault Sr.; another feudal overlord name Nicolas Chenu, Seigneur of Bingard; the parish priest from Angey, Jacques Micouïn; and Perceval Gosse (the bride's maternal grandfather).
Jean and Jeanne had 7 recorded children, of which Jacqueline (who married Georges DesRoches) was the first (interestingly, since her birth occurred 5 & a half years after the parents married).
Jean Huault de Gilberdière lived till his 80th year. He was buried 8 Sept 1722 at Champeaux. We don't know when Jeanne Jouey passed away, although she was about 17 years her husband's junior. The youngest of her 7 (known) children was born when she was close to 38 years old, in early 1698 (and didn't make it through his first year of life).
