Gertrud was born about 1835[1]
in the Kingdom of Hanover.[2]
She immigrated to the United States around 1856[3]
and married Joseph Sohl. She died in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania in 1907.[1]
Research Notes
Gertrude's death certificate cites a birthdate of 20 March 1835, though the age it provides—71 years, 9 months and 19 days as of 18 January 1907—supports a date of 30 March 1835.[1]
The United States census of 1900, on the other hand, reports that she was born in March 1837.[3]
Though her given name is written "Gertrude" on most documents, she signed her will "Gertrud Sohl" in 1904.[4]
Her maiden name is given in a biographical sketch of her son-in-law, Francis R. Schneider.[5]
