Bengta married a farm worker. The family moved around in southern Sweden as his yearly work contract changed. Bengta and her husband lived in Kverrestad 1865-1870, and their two oldest children, Jöns and Elna, were born there. In 1870, they moved to Toarp. There, son Anders was born in 1871 and died in 1872. Another daughter, Anna, was born in 1873. Oldest son Jöns passed away from a brain fever at age 8 in 1875. In October 1875, the family moved to Löberöd parish. The following fall, they moved to Södertow Gård where Anders worked for a year. The family emigrated to the US in 1878-1879. They lived first in Illinois and later in North Dakota.
Andersdotter was her patronym, Härstedt her family name. She kept her last names (as was Swedish custom) until she emigrated to the US, when her name changed to that of her husband, which was anglicized to Johnson.
