Biography

Florence Ellen Keiter^[1] was born on 7 September 1907,^[1][2] in Orwin, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania,^[1][3] to Ira Edwin Keiter and Katie Estella Gongleff. ^{[1] [2]}

In 1910, she was living with her parents and sister, in Porter Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Her father was a coal miner. ^[4]

In 1920, she was living with her parents and siblings in Tremont Borough, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. She was attending school. Her father was a coal miner. ^[5]

On 29 September 1926, Sydney Goodman married Samuel Penn Salmon and Florence Ellen Keiter, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Samuel was living at 1367 Pratt Street, and was a salesman. Florence was living in Lower Oxford Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and was a stenographer. ^[2] They had three known children, including:

Florence Salmon (1930-1934)

In 1930, S Penn, Florance, and their children were living in Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. They owned the residence, which was worth $3300. Penn was a specialty salesman, but was not at work the last working day; Florence was not working. The previous household is his parents. They also owned the house, which was worth $3300. His father Edward was a laborer at the Frankford Arsenal, but was not at work the last working day. ^[6]

In 1935 and 1940, S. Penn and Florence and their children were living in Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Penn worked 48 hours the week of 24 March 1940, as a proprietor, selling chicken and other food. The next household is his parents, Edward and Alda. Edward was unable to work. Both households were renting their residences for $20 per month in 1940. ^[7]

In 1950, S. Penn, Florence, their children, and his mother Alda were living in Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Penn was not working. The week before the census was taken, his wife Florence worked 40 hours as a typist clerk for accident investigators, their son Penn worked 44 hours as a manager of a retail poultry feed store, and their son Edward worked 40 hours as a stone mason's lifter [?] for a building contractor. ^[8]

Penn died on 31 July 1963, at his home, at 1085 Elwood Avenue, Andalusia, Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, of a coronary occlusion, due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. His occupation was traffic control On 5 August, he was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ^{[9] [10]}

She lived in Andalusia, Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, for 50 years, before moving to Salisbury, Maryland. ^[3]

She died on 22 September 1996, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Maryland. She was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ^{[3] [11]}

   'SALISBURY — Florence E. Salmon, 89, of here died Sunday, Sept. 22, 1996, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

   'Born in Orwin, Pa., she was a resident of the Andalusia section of Bensalem, Pa., for 50 years, until recently moving to Salisbury. Her husband was the late S. Penn Salmon.

   'She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Tower City High School and Berkley's Business College. She was a past worthy matron of the Holmesburg Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, which will conduct a service for Salmon Friday at 8 p.m.

   'She is survived by two sons, ..., and ..., with whom she lived; two brothers, Alvin Keiter and Irvin Keiter, two sisters, Edith Triplett and Elva Bolognese; s;even [sic] grandchildren; nine great-grand-children.

   'A funeral service will be held at Church of the Redeemer on Bristol Pike in Bensalem Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tomlinson Funeral Home on Bristol Pike in Bensalem.'
