Stanley was born in 1875. His Uncle George Roskruge convinced his parents to leave England for Tucson Arizona and they arrived in May, 1881, not long after the railroad. He was four at the time, and lived the rest of his life in Tucson. He met a young woman from Missouri, Ethel Tompkins, who was visiting a cousin in Tucson. They married in 1903 and had two children.
He was one of the first students at the University of Arizona. His father opened WF Kitt and Sons Dry Goods store where he worked most of his life. Not only was he a pioneer in Tucson, he was a pioneer on Mt. Lemmon, taking his family up to beat the heat for the first time in 1910. In 1920, he built a cabin which is still in the family.
Ethel Kitt became terminally ill with melanoma about 1940. The family store had been sold. Add to that, being traumatized by the attack on Pearl Harbor, remembering WWI and knowing WWII was imminent, Stanley Kitt took his own life the day before his birthday. He is interred with Ethel in Evergreen Cemetery. His parents and children are buried close by.
