He was the son of Henry LaForest and Laura Baker. He passed away before 2010.

Recore - LaForest vows in Champlain

Miss Beverly Recore of Plattsburgh and Pfc. Melvin LaForest, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry LaForest of Champlain, exchanged wedding vows June 1 at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. Rev. Snow performed the ceremony at the 11:00 o'clock Mass.

The bride wore a white street length dress. Miss Shirley Buskey of Mooers, her maid of honor, wore a yellow street length dress. Vernon LaForest, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

A small family reception was held at the home of the bridegroom's parents. The couple left for a wedding trip through the Adirondacks.

Pfc. LaForest is home on a 30 day leave and will leave for Korea June 29. Mrs. LaForest will continue her work at Ayerst Laboratories.[1]

Obituary

Berne -- Melvin R. LaForest, 62, of Treadlemire Road, died Monday, June 6, 2005, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Mr. LaForest was born on May 17, 1943, in Champlain, NY, the son of Henry and Laura (Baker) LaForest. For many years he was a truck driver, retiring from Golub Corporation in Rotterdam. Mr. LaForest had also operated Mel's Commuter Bus Line in Schoharie County. He thoroughly enjoyed racing as a hobby.

Survivors include his wife, Carol (Hennessey) LaForest, whom he married December 24, 2000; a daughter, Donna LaForest of Latham; step daughter, Noreen Kearney of Berne; two sons, Steven LaForest of Howes Cave and Dan Guasp of Schoharie; two sisters, Harriet Smart of Plattsburgh and Marilyn Warnock of Rensselear Falls; three brothers, Leon LaForest of Chazy, NY, Bernard LaForest of Texas and Vernon LaForest of Schoharie; grandchildren, Katrina LaForest, Steven LaForest, Jr. and Jaydan Guasp.

A funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10, at Palmer & Shaylor, Inc., Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh with Rev. Carol Coltrain of Huntersland United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice, New Scotland Avenue, Albany, NY 12084.
