Biography

Hilda Marie was baptized on 31 May 1913 in St. Joseph Ch., Downers Grove, Illinois. She was the daughter of Theodore Lewin and Wilhelmina (Gunther) Lewin.^[1]

Hilda Marie died at the age of 75 on 30 August 1953 in Hinsdale, DuPage, Illinois.^[2]

Hilda Marie was buried after 30 August 1953 in Ss. Peter & Paul, Naperville, Illinois.

Note: Hilda was the youngest of three children born to Theodore and Wilhilmina (Guenther) Lewin. Her exact birth date and birth place are unknown. Her brother, Otto, who was about 7 years old when the family immigrated, reported in the 1920 census that he was born in Posen (in Prussia). Her aunt Wilhelmina (Levine) Benwitz reported that she was born in West Posen. After immigrating to America, their home was in South Mount Forest, Palos Township, Cook County, Illinois. Hilda had little education. She had to work odd jobs cleaning to help support the family, and consequently could not read or write. Although born Lutheran, she converted to Catholicism while her children were young. She loved to watch TV and play cards, and was active in church guilds.
