Biography

Mary Lock was born about 1720 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania to Thomas Lock and his second wife Susanna. Mary moved with her father and mother to North Carolina in 1733 where the family settled in Bladen County in 1734.

Her fathers will made on August 29, 1739 where she was listed as unmarried and given "one cow and calf".

Her mother remarried to Edward Jones and on April 17 1741 she witnessed her step-fathers purchase of a tract of land in Bladen County.

It is assumed she died unmarried as no other records were found on her.

All the above information can be found in the book by Jim Peacock listed in the sources below and PROVES without doubt that the information on the Salter Bible and genealogy is INCORRECT.

Mary the daughter of Thomas Lock Esq. was NOT married in 1731! Her fathers will in 1739 states she was NOT MARRIED. Furthermore there is no evidence of Mary Lock daughter of Thomas Lock Esq. being married to a Salter! Also, she was NOT born in Sampson, North Carolina! THIS IS WRONG!

ALSO! She witnessed a land deal for her step-father Edward Jones in 1741 and signed as MARY LOCK, so she was not even married in 1741!
