Biography
December 26, 1848 -- John Garland Longstreet was born at Carlisle Barracks, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was named after his maternal grandfather. He was the first child and first son of James and Louise Garland Longstreet. [1]
During the American Civil War he served as a courier to his father. [2]
Fall 1866 -- Garland Longst his studies at Virginia Military Institute (VMI), Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. [3]
