John Marsh was one of the original proprietors of Hartford ; his home-lot in the distribution of 1639 was on what is now Front St., then the road from the Little River to the North Meadow. Chosen chimney-viewer, 1658; removed the next year to Hadley with the "withdrawers," under the lead of his father-in-law, Gov. Webster. He went from there to Northampton, and united with the church there, June 18, 1661.
He married in Hartford, about 1640, Anne, daughter of Gov. John Webster; she died in Northampton, June 9, 1662 ; and he married second Oct. 7, 1664, Hepzibah, widow of Richard Lyman, and daughter of Thomas Ford, of Windsor. She died April 11, 1683.
He had a brother Joseph, who was a clothier, in Braintree, Cc Essex, England, where he made his will, May 22, 1676, in which he mentions several of the children of John Marsh.

His eldest Son, John, was much concerned in the settlement of the "western lands," and explored Litchfield, where lie was one of the first settlers. Descendants of this family are still living in Hartford.

John emigrated to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1635. He was one of 100 people who migrated to Hartford, Connecticut with Hooker, Stone, and Goodwin in 1636. He moved to Indian town of Suekige.
Dissented from church in Hartford about 1660.
Lived in Hartford 1636-1660 Lived in Hadley, MA 1660-1688
Died while visiting his daughter, Hannah Loomis in Windsor in 1688. Burial: Place: Old Burying Ground, Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut.
There can be no question that John Marsh in 1688 was "of Hadley" and not of Northampton or Hartford, and as to the place of his death, that it was Windsor, Conn, where his daughter Hannah (Marsh) Loomis then lived. Stiles in Hist. Windsor gives the date as " 28, Sept. 1688, CE. 70." [2]
