He came to America departing Liverpool via S.S. Merion on 4 Dec 1912 arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 19 Dec 1912. The family was bound for his brother Gottlieb Mathiesen in Lincoln, Nebraska.[1]

Obituary
Pete Mathiesen was born August 6, 1884 in Russia, and passed away at Portland, OR at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 20 days of age. He received his education and grew to be a man in Russia.
He was married to Katherine Marie Wick, and soon after he married he and his bride came to the United States by boat. Their first new home was in Lincoln, NE. Shortly after this they moved to Chester where he was employed by the Burlington Railroad for a number of years. Later he was employed by the city of Chester until he retired. Nine years ago he moved to Portland. He enjoyed his life in this new community, and appreciated the many privileges in the community. He enjoyed little children and flowers. One of his happiest days was the day he received his citizenship papers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one infant son, Robert, one daughter, Lorene Lukas, a brother and one sister.
Survivors include six sons, Ted of Hebron, Davy of Lafayette, Or; George of Weaubleau, MO; Lloyd of Portland, OR; Paul of Port Angeles, Dean of Portland; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Mollie) Minne of Salem, OR and Mrs. Joseph (Clara Mae) Lukas of Portland, OR; 28 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted in Lombart Little Chapel of the Chimes on July 28 in Portland, with graveside services and burial in the Chester Cemetery July 31 with Rev. Douglas Ferguson officiating. Adams-Tibbetts Funeral Home of Hebron was in charge of arrangements.
