Notes Title: this marriage was never consumated due to their tender years Page: 142 Text: Chauncery record, Virginia, dated 1718, gives his age as 64 in a depostition Title: Ted Lee ChooseLife1@webtv dot net Text: I don't know if it is the same Cezar Mattingly or not, but I have documentation showing that a Cezar Mattingly was Christened in Westminister London England in 1661. His parents were Thomas and Elizabeth. If it is the same Cezar, then Thomas was still in England in 1661. What do you think?

From Susan Fadler a Mattingly decendant on my mother's side. She was a Mattingly. I come from the Jeremiah Mattingly Saran Shanks line.

"MATTINGLEY, Cesar Christening Sex: Male Christening Date: 26 Oct 1661 Recorded in: Saint Clement Danes, Westminister, London, England Father: Thomas MATTINGLEY Mother: Elizabeth Source: FHL Number 1042328 Dates: 1640-1675 Title: "The Mattingly Family in Early America, " by Herman E Mattingly

Rev. Herman Mattingly reported in "Mattingly Family in Early America" that Judith and Elizabeth were born in the 1690's. Judith was married to her first husband by 1699. Hence, her birth date must be earlier. She and Elizabeth are likely children of their father's first (possible) marriage to Mary "Suttle" (maiden name unknown). The will of John Suttle, written on 4-14-1680 names his wife as Executrix. When the will was executed on 10-7-1681, it included payment to Mary Mattingly, Executrix, wife of Thomas Mattingly. This Mary, however, could have been a daughter of John and not his ex-wife. This marriage is still under investigation.

The parents of Thomas were Thomas, I and Elizabeth. His siblings were, Judith, Elizabeth, and Cezar.

from Herman Mattingly's book: Charles County, Maryland patent 1666 for land "Mattingly's Hope" was to Thomas (II) & Cezar Mattingly. Thomas II bought land "Mount Misery" & "Mattingly's Hope" in St Mary's Co, MD. Cezar possess all the land in Charles County, Maryland as he sold this 1719 to Thomas Turner after his bro Thomas II's death. In the record of sale it says Cezar is a planter of St Mary's Co, MD. By 1705 Cezar had a 150A tract "The Thames" in St Clement's Hundred in St Mary's Co, MD. Rent Rolls give the tract as surveyed Nov 1670 for Patrick Salmon; & owned by Cezar in 1705. Next Rent Roll gives John Matney as possessor which suggests this is Cezar's son as Thomas II had no son John. 1717 John Matney received a warrant of survey 1717 for "Mattingly's Addition", a 50A parcel in St Mary's Co. It stated it adjoined "Thems" now owned by said Mattingly. 1718 Chancery Court deposition Cezar testified that tract "St Lawrence" was near Mr Turners. It gave his age as 64 leading to birth date of 1654. At the same time a Thomas Mattingly testified who was 30 years old sowas likely Cezar's son. His bro Thomas's son was not yet of legal age so not likely his nephew Thomas III, s/o Thomas II who died 1714.

From Descendants of Cezar Mattingly

A Cesar Mattingley was christened on October 26, 1661 at Saint Clement Danes, Westminister, London England. Parents listed as Thomas And Elizabeth Mattingley. NOTE: Because of Catholic traditions, I suspect Cezar was born closer to 1661 than 1654. There is mention of a Mary Suttle in relationship to the early Mattingly family and this may have been the wife of Cezar or his brother Thomas. To date I have seen nothing with which to establish an opinion but she remains a possibility.

Mattingly-296 and Mattingly-223 appear to represent the same person because: I just uploaded a Mattingly GEDCOM and I'm cleaning up some things. Two Cesars with two different spellngs this.
