Biography

Thomas was born in 1866. He is the son of Robert Newth and Charlotte Newton. ^[1] He married Louisa Maud Nathan in 1893^[2] He passed away in 1941 age 75 ^[3]

• Obituary ^[4] reads "MR T. G. NEWTH. A life prominently associated with sporting activities in Palmerston North tor many years came to an end last week with the death of Mr Thomas George Newth, of Morris Street. Born at Blenheim 75 years ago, Mr Newth arrived at Ashhurst in 1876 and after residing there for a few years came to Palmerston North, where he had lived ever since. When he came here he was apprenticed to a firm of carpenters, and in later years went into business on his own account, retiring about five years ago because of ill-health. An exceptionally good runner in his youth, Mr Newth was also a Manawatu Rugby football representative in 1888 and on several occasions afterwards, being a member of the old Kia Kaha Club. He was also one of the original members of the Linton Rifle Club and a keen follower of cricket, besides being a member of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in the early days. Forty-eight years ago, Mr Newth married Louisa Maud, eldest daughter of the late Mr J. C. Nathan, and is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mesdames J. H. | Hardie (Ohakune), P. Powell (Cheltenham), Miss 1). Newth (Palmerston North) and two sons, Messrs C. H. Newth (New Plymouth) and R. J. Newth (Wellington)."
