John George Parisien was born in 1868 (exact date is unknown), in Fort Alexander, Manitoba, Canada to Joseph Parisien and Catherine Spence.
In 1870, John G. Parisien (age 2) resided in St, Clement, Manitoba, Canada with his parents Joseph Parisien (35) and Catherine Parisien (Neé Spence) and his siblings: Marguerite Parisien (age 7), Catherine Parisien (age 4)[1]
When John was about 5 or 6, on October 31st, 1874, his mother Catherine passed away. He lived in Mapleton, Manitoba. His father remarried Sarah a few years later.
In 1881 John, age 13, resided in the district of Lisgar with his father, Joseph (40), his step mother Sarah (25), his sister Catherine, referred to as Kate (16), his brother Alexandre Joseph (10)as well as with his half sisters, Isabella (3) and Sarah (1). His sister Marguerite Sophia (20) and her husband James Wesley (24) also lived with him.[2]
Joseph resided in Catfish Creek, Manitoba on July 30, 1901 when he claimed scrip for his deceased brother, Alexandre Joseph Parisien (claim #787 ), his deceased mother, Catherine Parisien, neé Spence (claim #785) and for himself (claim #2146 & #4506).
John had 2 sisters and one bother. Marguerite Sophia, Catherine and Alexandre Joseph. After his mother passed away in 1874 his father remarried Sarah and they had more children. Isabella, Sarah, and William were amongst his half siblings.
John's brother, Alexandre passed away on July 30, 1893 at the age of 21.
John married Susan (Suzanne) Guimond [3][4] and they had one son Peter Joseph Parisien-254 in 1904.[5]
John's death date and location is unknown, however he would have to have died after his son's conception/birth in 1903-1904.
Research Notes
John mentions having a half brother in his scrip claim for his deceased brother, Alexandre Joseph. He also mentions that his father was married twice. I have found mentions of Sarah Hope being his step mother, however I have yet to find definitive proof of her maiden name. This would require further research. In 1881 Census he lives with his step mother Sarah. The Scrip also refers to his sister Marguerite that is married to James Wesley. In 1881 Census John lives with James Wesley and Sophia Wesley. Several family trees show John as having a sister named Marguerite, Sophia and Catherine (Kate). He clearly says he has 2 sisters in this scrip, therefore Marguerite and Sophia are actually the same person not two people as many have indicated, however none have their info sourced.
No information has been found on his death, however if Peter, his son was born in 1904 then John would have to have died either within the 9 months of his gestation or sometime after he was born. More research would need to be done. Peter Joseph was buried in Traverse Bay, Manitoba in the family plot, which is in the same area that John George was born and raised so there is definitely a strong possibility that John is buried in the same plot. More research would need to be done.
There is mention of a John Parisien Jr in the 1916 Census, and I have noticed several Ancestry.com family trees link it to this John G Parisien, however, it can't be proven 100% at this time that this in fact the same person, primarily because the enumerator did not list all family members by name. More research would need to be done to prove or disprove this information. [6]
I have not found mention of John in any Census after 1891.
The following website has some useful information, however none of it is sourced, making it uncertain, however it does look very hopeful.
