Joseph Parisien was born circa 1835-43 to Baptiste Parisien and Marguerite(unknown; sometimes called Destempt).[1][2][3][4][5](son of Margaret Ford or Firth[1]?; under investigation)
Joseph married Catherine Spence (daughter of John Spence and Catherine, an indigenous woman) on 18 Nov 1861.[1][2][5]
At the time of the 1870 census of Manitoba, they were enumerated at St. Clements, along with children Marguerite (7), Catherine (4) and John G. (2).[2]
Catherine passed away in 1874. Joseph remarried to Sarah Hope (daughter of Thomas Hope and Sarah Spruce) on 10 Dec 1877.[1][6] In 1881, they were enumerated at St. Andrews, along with children Kate (16), John (13), Joseph (10), Isabella (3), Sarah (1), James Wesley [son-in-law] (24), and Sophia Wesley (20); Joseph was occupied with farming.[3]
Joseph was a member of Treaty 1 and received annuity from St. Peter's Band[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]; however, he applied to withdraw from the treaty[17][18] and discharge was granted on 12 Mar 1886[19]. Additionally, Joseph claimed Métis scrip twice, the latter application in 1886 being disallowed due to scrip having been issued previously in 1876. His scrip documents contain the following information[1]:

Parents: Baptiste Parisian and Margaret Firth [recorded as Ford in 1876], "halfbreeds"
Residence history: Left Edwanhan[?] in 1850 and came to St. Peters Man. where I lived until 1861 when I went to Oxford House. Keewatin in the [illegible - Canefrancois's?] Service where I lived for four years, returned to Manitoba in 1865 and settled at Clandeboye where I have lived ever since.

Marriages: Married first Catherine Spence at Mapleton 18 Nov[?] 1861 who died in 1874 and second to Sarah Hope in December 1877 at St. Peters
Living children and their mothers: [as of 13 Mar 1886] Five; three with Catherine Spence: Sabrina Catherine born at Oxford House in 1864, John George born at Mapleton 4 Jul 1886 [should read 1866], Alexander Joseph born born at St. Peters 16 Apr 1870; two with Sarah Hope: William Henry James born at St. Peters in Feb 1882, and Robert Alfred born at Clandeboye 1 Feb 1886
Deceased children: Five; Sophia Margaret born at Mapleton 8th Aug 1862 died at St. Peters August 1884, and Mary Ann, Isabella, Sarah Ann, and Anna [Hallies?], born at Clandeboye after after the transfer [1870] and now dead. Sophia Margaret was a treaty Indian at the time of her death.
Nickname: "Appechachin" (small)
He passed away at St. Andrews on 26 Dec 1886.[4][20] His wife was recorded as widowed at the time of the 1891 census.[21]
