Hi Eileen,
Just a short note to say that Joseph Parisien b. 1875 did not die April 8, 1885, it was little brother Jean-Baptiste who died then.
Only five days after the death, their father completed this scrip declaration: April 13, 1885 Made scrip declaration at Qu’Appelle Mission: Joseph Parisien
Junior, of Fort Qu’Appelle , laborer, his own claim to any grant to Half-Breeds living in the
North-West Territories , Halfbreed child; Claim #26. Address: Fort Qu’Appelle . Born: St.Boniface in 1847. Father: Joseph Parisien (HB); Mother: Marguerite Martin (HB). I moved with my family from Manitoba into the Territories about the year 1864 and 1865, and ever since remained a resident of the Territories. Occupation: laborer & hunter. Married: June 1871 on the Plains, vicinity of Cypress Hills, to Marguerite Gariepy. Children living: five: Solomon, 14 June 1872; Joseph, 10 May 1875; Isidore, 17th Feb 1878; Bernard, 18th June 1879 and Louis 1881; of Joseph Parisien & Marguerite Gariepy. Children deceased: two: Damase, born 26th Oct 1873 died 1875; and Jean Baptiste born 7th June 83 died 8th April 1885.
Took a homestead, am in communication with Land [office] for leave to change it. I will take land instead of scrip. I Have not left the valley of Qu’Appelle since last 15th March. JOSEPH (x) PARISIEN; Qu’Appelle Mission ; 13 April 1885; French; ANTOINE (x) HAMELIN; JEAN LOUIS (x) FAGNANT. I would now prefer scrip for 0 instead of 240 acres of land. JOSEPH (x) PARISIEN; 3 April 1887.
