I started working on my wife's TREE and mine in 1994 through family relations and the library (No internet at the time). I joined WT about 6 months before I retired in Feb 2015. Around the end of 2019 I slowed down a lot due to burn out with hitting my head on the wall so much. It was fun while it lasted and I truly enjoyed it. i hope that I saved a lot of researchers some time and money finding their family from this research. I found some family secrets (none bad), after my DNA test with 23 and me. There is possibly nothing you can do that will help more than getting a DNA test. I got mine through 23&Me. Post it on WT and follow your cousins on the testing company's Web Site and you may get a lot of help on your tree. Thanks to WT and and all of it's members that helped me.

Biography
The short Bio of Pike-2301It's hard to realize that the Anniversary of the 50th year since I graduated from High School in 1968 has come and gone.
I am putting this down first because it's the most important thing that I have been doing for 29 yrs. Looking for help on a John Pike & Mary Courtney who Marry in 1832 in Pendleton County Kentucky. Honi Klien of WT, in 2018 solved my problem with Mary Courtney's father and mother with sourced information.
I didn't start my trip to find out if I was related to royalty but as a favor to my aunt and found out that I like the hunt.
I was born to Preston Marion Pike & Ilene Healy Pike at Cincinnati General Hospital.[1] I am the 3rd of 8 children. We lived at 60 E McMillan. The tenement was torn down around 1970 and the vacant lot where it stood is across the street from a public swimming pool. Both parents are gone now. Mom was around but didn't have much in the way of conversation her last 7 years. She was becoming senile and dementia set in. They say that's what killed her. She forgot to eat & refused food?
I got my first job when I was 11. Graduated in the top 25% of the class without trying in the 12th. I enlisted in the Corps in April 1968 then graduated from Courter Tech (now Cincinnati State,) P. S. in June of 1968 and went into the Marine Corps on the 27th. I was trained as a Ground Radio Repairman (2847) (2841) . Honorably discharged on June 26, 1972 as Sergeant. Worked in Shoe Manf. machinery (ISMC), Home Alarm Systems as a Bench tech (Pro Comm and Am Alarm Co.)), to Main Frame computer systems (Telex Computer Products), to Networking (Network Engineer for Timplex, Unisys,Arch Pager and G.E.) to which I am now retired.
My wife passed away in Oct 2011. I have one daughter & 2 step children along with my grandson B. 2009 and 2 granddaughters.
I am looking on my paternal side mostly. This big block has been in front of me for over 20 years as follows. A John Pike & Mary Courtney of Pendleton Co. Ky get married. I feel that he and his children are hiding him during the census'. He was listed as being from many states in different census'. The Mary Courtney father has eluded me also until Honi Klien passed on the very interesting information of my Thomas Courtney. I'm still perplexed with John Pike-925.
The Pike family merges into Kentucky from Massachusetts. My John Pike is a Protestant so I can rule out Catholic and probably not a Quaker. My Pike line has Porter, Moore from Higginsport, Brown County Ohio, Perry from Pendleton County Kentucky. & of Course Courtney from England to Maryland via the British Army (possible conscript) in the revolution to Pennsylvania to Kentucky.
- My Healy line is from the Boston area from around 1650 with William. They were handed to me on a silver platter by a previous genealogist. My objective is to dump all my research, obits, Bible & other proofs before I go offline. My children aren't interested in Genealogy.
- Well I got my son to join & he is now most trusted on all my accounts.
- My only famous relation, that I found so far is I'm 13th cousin to Harry S. (Shipp , Shippy) Truman. He swore he only had a middle initial of S, but it's "Shippe". Many of his relations have the name Ship or Shippy. He is through my Dye line where his family moved from Kentucky. to Missouri.
Find A Grave & found out that they are now owned by Ancestry.Com. They don't buy companies without planning to make a profit. I hope WikiTree doesn't go down the same path.:^(
