Biography

1776 Project
Private Samuel Porterfield served with 6th Battalion, Cumberland County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

Samuel was born in 1763. He was the son of Samuel Porterfield. His mother is unknown.

Family

He married Nancy MacGuffen. Samuel passed away in 1806.[1][2]

Tax and Land Records

Pennsylvania Tax List from 1798 show Samuel living in Donegal, Westmoreland. He had one dwelling, one shop, and one stable valued at 8 dollars on 100 acres that were valued at 108 dollars.[3][4]

DAR Patriot

Samuel is one of eight Porterfields recognized as a DAR Patriot. His father is also listed as a DAR patriot.[2]
