Biography

William was born in 1696. He was the first son of Alexander Porterfield and Catherine Boyd. He married Juliana Steele of Lochmaben. He succeeded to the estate of Duchall in 1743 upon the death of father. He passed away on 6 November 1752. ^[1][2] As William had no children, the Porterfield's Duchal estate passed to his cousin Boyd, son of Alexander upon his death. ^[3]

Duchal Estate

In a Deed of Entail dated in October 1721 Alexander conveyed the lands of Duchal and others to his eldest son, William, and heirs between him and his wife Julian Steele. The deed was the subject of a court case in 1835 against the eventual successor to Duchal, James Corbett Porterfield. ^[2]

As William had no children, the Porterfield's Duchal estate passed to his cousin Boyd, son of Alexander upon his death in 1752. ^[3][4]
